Balch Creek Residence
Nestled within an environmentally sensitive site at the headwaters of Balch Creek in Portland’s West Hills, this custom home for a professional couple embraces the outdoors while offering privacy and seclusion. The design is inspired by the clients’ desire for soaring space that feels like living in the trees. While the steep slope and environmental regulations limited the footprint and location of the house, the design solution creates a vertical separation between the private guest quarters of the lower level and the owner’s one-bedroom loft house above. The exterior materials blend with the natural environment of the forest while the interiors reflect the owner’s desire for colors that complement the sylvan setting.
